Decorating Your Staircase for Christmas
When it comes to staircase holiday decor, our foyer and staircase are one of my favorite rooms to decorate! We renovated our stair a few years ago by ripping up the existing blue carpet, installing new stair treads, and painting the stair black and white. There are a bunch of ways to create a festive staircase including garland, hanging ornaments, and ribbon.
Garland | Red Ribbon | Gold Ribbon | Velcro Ties
Similar to decor at our our fireplace mantel, we keep our Christmas decor at our staircase pretty simple. We like to use the Aloral Christmas garland for our stair banister. You can also consider alternating installing the garland along the top railing and the bottom plate of the stair. This year we installed it on the bottom plate and we loved how it did not overcrowd the look of the stair and the handrail was still functional.

Lastly, we pair the garland with gold and red ribbon, cut into strips and tied into bows. We like using inexpensive ribbon because you can easily change the color from year to year. Attach the garland using velcro ties in black, which match the stair railing and essentially disappear. All of these elements work together to create festive holiday banister decor!
Garland | Red Ribbon | Gold Ribbon | Velcro Ties | Pine Bunches
In addition to decorating the staircase, we also like to add a few simple touches to our foyer table. We swap out the greenery by adding bunches of pine in our usual vase for something more festive. Let’s continue our stair and Christmas tree holiday decor ideas, with decorating your primary Christmas tree!
Your Living Room Christmas Tree
What would Christmas decorations be without a Christmas tree?! Whether you choose to decorate a live or artificial tree, its a must-have for holiday and Christmas decor. We invested in a realistic 8’ pre-lit artificial Christmas tree. When researching artificial Christmas trees, we made sure with additional height it did not get too wide for our room and fit appropriately. For the tree skirt, we recently got this white faux fur tree skirt which adds a cozy touch.
Christmas Tree | Tree Skirt | Topper | Red Ribbon | Gold Ribbon | Timer
There are bunch of different ways to consider decorating your Christmas tree. For ornaments, you could do themed ornaments, something trendy for the year, or keep it traditional. We like to incorporate a mix of all three. There are ornaments we use every year but also add and remove as we shop for something new.
We also like to tie the Christmas tree decor back to the rest of our home’s holiday decor. One of the ways we do this is incorporating the same gold and red ribbon from our staircase and kitchen. You can learn more about our holiday kitchen decor here.
Lastly, we like to automate the holiday decor as much as possible. For our Christmas tree, we use this plug-in timer so each night the lights automatically turn on and off per our schedule.
As you decorate your staircase and Christmas tree this season, remember that simplicity often brings the most charm. By choosing timeless and minimal decor, you create a warm, inviting atmosphere that celebrates the essence of the holidays. Enjoy decorating your home and we hope you are able to incorporate some of the elements and tips we highlighted in our staircase and Christmas tree holiday Decor!
