Cozy Decor For Your Family Room Fireplace
First, let’s start with a holiday and Christmas classic, the fireplace mantle. A year ago we did a DIY renovation makeover on our family room, which included renovating our existing brick fireplace. There are lots of different options to creative a festive fireplace: mantel garland, stockings, holiday art for the Frame TV, and adding personalized touches. We incorporated most of these into our Christmas fireplace decor.

Simple Holiday Decor For A Mantel
For our holiday mantel decorations, we mixed high and low garland. Our fireplace mantel was also part of our DIY fireplace renovation, learn more on how we built our mantel here. We’re huge fans of Alforal’s realistic garland, but we also like to mix it with some affordable garland from Michael’s. In general, we like to keep our mantel garland nice and simple with only greenery. However, you can definitely mix in florals, pine cones, berries, and colors. To add a festive touch, we intertwine the garland with battery-powered twinkle lights.

What is a Christmas fireplace without stockings? We’re using simple fur stockings from Crate and Barrel. We hang them on stocking holders also from Crate & Barrel. For a personalized touch, we incorporated gold letter ornaments from Etsy, which coordinate with other gold accents in the room. We lean towards minimal decor, so we like how these simple stockings do not compete with the fireplace.
Adding a Small Christmas Tree To Your Bay Window
At our family room, in addition to adding festive touches to our fireplace, we also have a bay window we like to decorate! We updated our bay window as a part of our family room renovation a few years ago. We use this space for a smaller, trendier Christmas tree. Lastly, we like to switch up the theme too, keeping the more traditional ornaments and decor for our main living room Christmas tree.

At our bay window, we use this sparse and flocked pre-lit Christmas tree. Ours is no longer sold but here’s a link to a very similar tree. Because this is a petite tree, we use an assortment of mini-ornaments mixed with some larger ornaments. This was our first holiday season with our completed family room renovation, so we incorporated green ornaments to coordinate with our olive green velvet couch! We got most of these ornaments from Target and Hobby Lobby and they were budget friendly.
Additional Festive Touches For A Bay Window
To tie the Christmas tree in with the rest of the bay window area, we decorate our accent chair and side table, too. I love Pottery Barn’s festive pillow collection for the various holidays. For winter, we add this holiday themed dog pillow. Lastly, we also place one of our snowflake candle votives, which tie back to our kitchen Christmas decor.
