Our living room probably had the least drastic before and after for all the rooms in our condo, but the same can’t be said for the adjacent entry nook. When you originally entered our condo, the front door swung in and a coat closet hit you straight ahead in the face. This was one of the things I hated most about the existing entry, because who wants to walk into a really tight space and be greeted by a coat closet?!
The first order of business here was to remove the coat closet, remove the existing carpet, and install can lights throughout the living area. You can find out all of the details on the paint, flooring, lighting, etc in this post. Once the coat closet was gone, a natural entry nook emerged, thanks to a small bump out at the end of the living room wall. And don’t worry, we have two additional closets in the hallway and one is now utilized as our coat closet, so we lost minimal storage!
At the entry nook, we kept the wood storage bench built by my father-in-law from our last condo as the base for the area and just added from there. The vintage wood wall mirror was thrifted from OfferUp. When we purchased it, the mirror was very worn and although I would have preferred to maintain the original finish, we made the decision to refinish it by painting it black. We love modern with a touch of vintage and antique and this space actually defines our style perfectly with the antique statement mirror that greets you at the door.
As for living room area we kept it pretty simple, adding some furniture staples like a large sectional couch and media console. This is where we come to chill out, watch tv, and even do workouts thanks to the pandemic. The extra space by the windows provides us flexible options if we need to put one of our work desks in the corner instead of the blanket ladder and it also makes for the perfect place to put our Peloton.
My favorite parts of this space is the window wall – having three large windows in one room, in a city condo is a luxury. Aside from furnishings and accessories, the only costs in this room were the basics covered here. You can find any additional details on the rooms below:
