We’re so excited to share the mood board for our whole house design, mostly because it means we’re finally moving in the right direction! Kam and I have spent a lot of time working through some major design decisions such as selecting our wood floor for throughout (upstairs and downstairs), paint colors, deciding what to do with the existing door casing trim (which is beat up around the whole house) and even light fixtures.
Now let’s break down some of the things we’ve selected on our mood board:
Flooring – For flooring throughout our entire house we’ve decided to go with Stuga Studio’s Pippi engineered wood flooring. Although it took us at least 30-40 samples to arrive at this decision, we’re feeling very decisive and excited to install it in early 2022.
Paint Colors – For the walls, we’re going to be using Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace. We used this color in the condo and because we liked it so much, after getting samples for 6 other colors that we were not happy with, we decided to use it again. This will be the base color for the entire house.
For accents, such as the staircase and interior doors, we’re going to be using Sherwin William’s Tricorn Black. This color is everywhere right now and it’s such a good black we can’t resist using it at our home. Looking forward to neutralizing a lot of the oak we have throughout.
Lighting – For general lighting, we’re going to be using a mixture of Mitzi light fixtures. At all the flush ceiling lights, we’ve purchased the Apsyn ceiling light in aged brass. More to come on lighting fixtures on the first floor.
Door Hardware – We’re still on the fence about which hardware set to use, but either way, its going to be one of two Schlage satin brass sets. We’re currently considering the Bowery Knob with Century Trim or the Latitude Lever with Century Trim.
Before we get into the renovation details, here is a sneak peak of what our living room will look like someday, with the mood board in mind. We cant wait until it looks like this in the future:
That brings us to the what we’re working to accomplish right now on the first floor. We’re currently focused on getting the walls, ceilings, and window trim painted. After that, we’ll plan to remove the existing carpet, baseboards, and door casing. We’ll prep and lay the flooring, then finish off with the new door casing and new baseboards. We plan at some point to paint the existing windows black and DIY window grids onto all of them, but it will probably happen at a later phase. We anticipate this work will take us the next 2-3 months, hopefully wrapping up in February 2022.
